Losing Power

What's not to love about another dirty coal fired power station closing in the Latrobe Valley? Everyone has known this closure was coming and the Victorian Government is committed to supporting the region's transition to alternative employment bases (Good luck with that!). Hard for those workers and their families being thrown onto the post industrial scrap heap but as a species we have a moral responsibility to ensure the survival of human life on earth. This means we must shut down all the fossil fuel industries without delay. Everybody knows this so stop pretending and get ready for change. Jobs will soon be a thing of the past anyway.

If your job hasn't been outmoded by technology or moved offshore then more than likely it soon will be. As we get deeper into the 21st century, jobs are evaporating into the ether. The world of fully automated supermarkets and online retail, self directed learning and driverless public transport vehicles is already here. As households, we need to generate our own power, capture and store rainwater and grow our own food. Live a simple life. Read more and go to the beach. Life on the post-industrial scrap heap can be good.
